Nursing Technology Fund to fund speech recognition
In October 2012 the Prime Minister announced the establishment of a Nursing Technology Fund to support nurses, midwives and health visitors to make better use of digital technology in all care settings, in order to deliver safer, more effective and more efficient care.
The funding was to be allocated to providers in two rounds. The first round, for £30m, was for funding to be spent in FY13/14.
On 9th December, NHS England announced the launch of a £100m Nursing Technology Fund. The fund, open to all NHS Trusts, will be split over 2013 – 2015; the first £30m for projects that can be delivered in 2013-2014, and the other £70m available as a second round of funding for the 2014-2015 financial year.

The fund is available to help nurses improve patient care by having all patient information available to them anytime, anywhere. Thus the focus is on particular technology types. Speech recognition technology and digital pens have been accepted to be funded.
